Located just 22 km from Srinagar, Dachigam National Park is one of the most important wildlife reserves in Jammu & Kashmir, famous as the last home of the endangered Hangul (Kashmiri Stag). Spread over 141 square kilometers, this park ranges in altitude from 5,500 ft to 14,000 ft, offering a dramatic mix of forests, alpine meadows, rocky cliffs, and crystal-clear streams.
The name “Dachigam” means “ten villages”, a tribute to the ten villages that were relocated to create this conservation space. It’s divided into Upper and Lower Dachigam, with Lower Dachigam easily accessible and rich in flora, fauna, and birdlife.
