Peaceful Pilgrimage to Pawapuri

Sacred Serenity at Pawapuri – The Final Nirvana of Mahavira

Pawapuri, located in Bihar’s Nalanda district, is one of the most revered pilgrimage destinations for Jains across the world. It holds immense spiritual significance as it is the site where Lord Mahavira, the 24th and last Tirthankara, attained moksha (liberation) in 527 BCE. Also known as Apapapuri, or the “Sinless City,” Pawapuri is a serene and tranquil town surrounded by beautiful temples, sacred ponds, and pristine landscapes that reflect spiritual peace.

The most iconic attraction here is the Jal Mandir, a stunning white marble temple built in the middle of a lotus-filled pond. Pilgrims walk across a causeway to reach this sanctum, which stands on the very spot where Lord Mahavira was cremated. The Samosharan Mandir, another key site, commemorates the spot where Mahavira is believed to have delivered his final sermons. With its spiritually charged atmosphere, serene surroundings, and architectural marvels, Pawapuri offers a unique experience for those seeking inner peace, history, and devotion. The town comes alive during Jain festivals like Mahavir Jayanti and Diwali, making it an even more enriching visit.
